ABSTRACT
This research explores the form and meaning of vernacular architecture in the Osing community settlements in Kemiren Village, Banyuwangi. The selection of Kemiren Village as the research location is based on the unique architecture of its settlement, which warrants in-depth exploration. The aim of this research is to describe the architectural forms and understand the meanings they embody. This research employs a qualitative descriptive method with data collection through direct observation and interviews. Data was obtained from field observations and interviews, which was then analyzed qualitatively to uncover the underlying meanings. The Osing community continues to uphold their values, norms, and traditions or customs. Architecturally, the Osing settlements and traditional houses demonstrate efforts to preserve the environment and nature, as well as avoidance of forest damage. This study reveals that the vernacular architecture of the traditional Osing houses in Kemiren Village reflects adaptation to local conditions and the use of local natural materials.
