ABSTRACT
Land use is a form of utilization or function of the embodiment of a form of land cover. The problem in land use is a natural imbalance caused by the change in land use. Tanggul Watershed (DAS) is one of the watersheds in the Jember area that is affected by land use changes. Tanggul Watershed has an erosion rate of 37,534.76 m3 /year. One of the erosion rates is influenced by land cover vegetation factors. Steps to minimize the problem require research on changes in land use in the Tanggul Watershed. This study aims to determine land-use changes in the area using the remote sensing method. The method used was carried out by comparing land use in 2001, 2009, and 2018. Landsat-7 and Landsat-8 images are used as remote sensing data that can be used in the process of analyzing land use change. The research results over 17 years, from 2001 to 2017, show that land changes have occurred in the Tanggul Watershed. These changes occurred in the residential class, which increased by 7.5%; the forest class decreased by 6.76%; the rice field class decreased by 5.8%; the garden class decreased by 7.51%; and the open land class experienced an increase of 4.05%. Therefore, remote sensing can be used to identify land use changes that occur periodically without direct monitoring
